Beach

Looking to escape for a breath of sea air? The Belgian beach is a perfect day trip from De Drie Koningen. Whether you’re traveling by car or train, the beach towns along the North Sea offer something for everyone – from peaceful nature spots to lively seaside resorts. Here are our top tips and favorite beach destinations to help you make the most of your visit.

By car

Wenduine

A hidden gem. This is one of the quietest and most peaceful towns along the Belgian coast – a favorite among our own team. Don’t miss the Slierberg playground, loved by young families for its scenic setting in the woods.

De Haan

De Haan coast near Bruges

Famous for its well-preserved Belle Époque architecture and traffic-free center. Perfect for leisurely walks, bike rides through the dunes and peaceful beach days. Fun fact: Albert Einstein lived in De Haan for a half year in 1933.

Nieuwpoort

A larger town with a fishing harbor, bustling fish market, and excellent seafood restaurants. Perfect if you want to combine beach time with a great meal. The furthest seaside town between these recommendations.

By train

From Bruges station, you can take the train to Knokke-Heist, Ostend or Blankenberge. Because of these train connections, they are naturally a bit busier than the other recommended destinations. Of course, you can also get there by car.

Knokke-Heist

Chic and stylish. Known for its designer shops, art galleries, and luxury beach clubs. It’s one of the more upscale beach resorts – ideal for those seeking a vibrant atmosphere with fine dining and modern art.

Ostend

Ostend coast near Bruges

A bigger city by the sea with a long beach promenade, shops, street art, museums, and a marina. There’s something for everyone, including regular events and food markets. Fun fact: Marvin Gaye lived in Ostend in 1981.

Blankenberge

Blankenberge coast near Bruges

Just 12 minutes by train, with attractions like the Sea Life aquarium, mini-golf, and a pier stretching into the sea. It’s lively, popular, and great for a classic beach day with kids.
