AROUND THE APARTMENT

Vergulde Fontein

Hidden treasure

Beneath the quiet charm of Bruges’ Twijnstraat lies a secret — De Vergulde Fontein, a 14th-century cellar with soul. Once forgotten and rediscovered through archaeological research, this vaulted space breathes history through every stone. Protected as architectural heritage and restored with care, it invites visitors into a world where time seems to pause.

With its Gothic arches, medieval candle niches, and centuries-old ambiance, De Vergulde Fontein offers a setting unlike any other in Bruges — quiet, grounding, and deeply atmospheric. It’s not just a place to visit, but a place to be.

Experiences

Today, De Vergulde Fontein opens its doors for carefully curated experiences that honor the spirit of the space — slow, intimate, and meaningful. These gatherings are not about spectacle, but about connection — to self, to others, and to the deeper rhythm of the city.

Here’s what you might encounter beneath the vaults:

  • Yoga and mindful movement, held in stillness and stone
  • Storytelling and intimate concerts, where sound resonates deeply
  • Workshops and creative sessions that draw inspiration from the layered history
  • Community gatherings or small-scale rituals, grounded in simplicity and presence

This is Bruges experienced from the inside out — not through checklists, but through emotion, attention, and memory. Whether you’re hosting or participating, De Vergulde Fontein offers a space that encourages slowing down, listening, and creating with intention.
