Buying train tickets

Tickets for Belgian trains can be easily purchased in several ways:

  • At ticket machines or counters at any train station (machines accept cards and some accept cash).

  • Online via the official SNCB/NMBS website or their mobile app.

We recommend checking schedules and booking online in advance, especially during busy tourist seasons.

Do I need to take a specific train?

Train tickets within Belgium (e.g., from Brussels, Ghent, or Antwerp to Bruges) are not tied to a specific departure time. You can take any train on the same day in the same class (Standard, First, etc.). So if you miss your planned train, simply take the next one — no need to change your ticket!

If you’re traveling internationally (e.g., Eurostar from London, or Thalys from Paris), those tickets are fixed to a specific time and seat.

Train frequency and travel time

  • Trains to Bruges run frequently, especially from major cities like Brussels (about 4 per hour).

  • The journey from Brussels to Bruges takes around 1 hour, from Ghent about 30 minutes, and from Antwerp around 1.5 hours.
